Pendle and the Ribble Valley from Merrybent Hill

I was fortunate enough to live in the very centre of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for over 18 years.  We have now moved to another AONB, the North Pennines; both areas are unspoilt, hidden gems.  I will remember my time in Bowland with the happiest of recollections of this wonderful place.

Bowland covers over 300 miles of beautiful scenery ranging from Pendle Hill to Wennington in the north, and abuts onto the Yorkshire Dales in the east near Ingleton.  To the west the fells of Chipping also fall within Bowland. The whole area sits between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks, and has a beauty and diversity equal to either of those more well known areas.  There are many delightful stone villages in Bowland, often with interesting history, such as Slaidburn, where I live, but also Chipping, Downham, Bolton-by-Bowland, and Wray to name just a few. Sometimes I don't even have to leave the front door to get a fabulous image!    Take a look...
